Guillermo del Toro Doesn't Think About Making Games Again

Guillermo del Toro says he doesn't think he'll ever try to develop a game again.

Guillermo del Toro Doesn't Think He'll Make Games Again

GameSpot (via IGN) reports that del Toro has appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast and confirmed that he is not working on a Silent Hill-related project.

This question comes after del Toro showed up at The Game Awards 2021 and jokingly said he loved the art direction at Silent Hill and hoped we all got a new one soon.

The way he delivered the message led many to believe he was working on something, but that didn't seem to be the case. Del Toro is probably done exploring the world of video games, at least for now.

Despite saying that he likes the idea of playing games as a “storytelling practice”, del Toro doesn't think he'll “be developing games again because he's the albatross of video games”. Del Toro said those same words back in 2015, and it looks like he's still keeping his word.

Want to “Tickle” Konami

While the information may not be good news for fans of del Toro's work, he did at least share a few more thoughts on the Silent Hills project he worked on with Hideo Kojima.

"It's just one of those things in my life that just doesn't make sense," del Toro said. “I just wanted to 'tick' Konami's ribs because I didn't understand. That's so perfect. What we are going to do is very exciting.”

The existence of Silent Hills first appeared after the release of P.T., a teaser of the game. Silent Hills was originally to be helmed by del Toro and Kojima and will star Norman Reedus from The Walking Dead. The game was eventually cancelled, Konami had even removed P.T. from the PlayStation Store in 2015.

While del Toro, Kojima, and Reedus never made Silent Hills, they all worked together on Death Stranding. Reedus is the game's main character, while del Toro lends his resemblance to the character known as Deadman.

Prior to Konami's drama, del Toro had also worked on Insane for Volition, but the survival horror game also failed and was never released.
