Not Sold, Ubisoft Only Sells 15 NFTs

Liz Edwards (senior character artist Apex Legends) found that Ubisoft seems to have sold a total of 15 NFTs between the two markets they use, namely Object and Rarible.

We know that 1 Tezoz is around 4.43 USD (as of this writing). If the total volume sold is around 445.49 Tezoz from these two sites, then Ubisoft only gets around 1,480 USD.

It's not a supply issue, some Ubisoft items are on sale on both sites for prices that can go as high as 400,000 USD. But in reality, not many transactions take place and the transactions are not expensive at all.

However, we should note that Ubisoft also gave away most of their NFT initially which led to a reduction in the number of existing sales. However, it seems that Ubisoft's experiments into the NFT world haven't gone well.

What's more, Ubisoft Quartz is designed so that only those who play Ubisoft games can purchase NFT. It's also a reducing factor for anyone looking to make a quick buck.

Stephen Totilo (journalist for Axios) added that all Ubisoft's NFT purchases appear to be for weapon skins for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint only. To date, no one has bought a helmet skin which takes 600 hours to get.

NFT and Blockchain Controversy

From an outside perspective, it's hard to see at first what Ubisoft can get out of this. With NFT provided for free, they will not make money directly.

Ultimately, this will lead to microtransactions, DLC enhancements, and so on. Yves Guillemot (CEO of Ubisoft) even considers their NFT plan to be a “start” only.

Blockchain and NFT games have indeed been the core target of controversy in recent months. Valve has even banned blockchain and NFT games from Steam, but Epic Games have accepted them with open arms on their platform.

Electronic Arts (EA) has also revealed that blockchain and NFT games are their “future industry”. In addition, Square Enix recently started to try the blockchain and NFT gaming business. Konami also began to join in this business trend. Zynga has even entered the business by choosing someone to take care of the sector.

Phil Spencer has even expressed concern over the consideration of blockchain and NFT based games.

GSC Game World as the developer of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 experienced the same thing, where they received a negative response when announcing the NFT plan and causing them to cancel the plan.

We look forward to the future of blockchain and NFT, whether this will pass quickly or will it stay here and stay for a long time.
